Have your HCI levels checked and if they are low then supplement. Start taking probiotics and try to avoid the foods that cause the problem.
Google the acid/alkaline diet. You’ve got to eat mainly alkaline foods until you get your system back to normal. You can get a list of the foods that are alkaline there. You can mainly eat vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Pretty much everything else is acid. Watch out about meat especially. It’s very acid in your system. Don’t drink plain water, add lemon juice to it. Have a spoonful or more of honey when your acid is really bad. Honey is alkaline and will help to reduce the acid in your stomach. Get the ph papers if you can and this will help you learn when you get your body back in balance. I no longer take the prescribed medication that my doctor gave me. I have pretty much healed myself through proper eating. Just stay on that alkaline diet for awhile and you’ll feel much better. Good luck.
Prilosec, protonics are two really good drugs…..don’t eat for at least 1 hour before bed…cut down to almost nothing on the caffeine.
After researching site after site, I did a digetive tract cleanse using Oxy Powder after 7 days i notice a difference. It worked so well i followed it with a few more days then added a probiotic and a good grade of aloe vera juice to my diet and also stepped up my diet. eating more green veggies and switching to organic foods as much as i could budget.
my step mom has it bad. and she uses tums
There are a couple of things you can do to try to prevent it. Don’t eat anything for a couple of hours before you go to bed. Elevate the head of your bed by placing bricks or something under the front bed posts where your head is. This will help keep the acid from coming back up into your throat, etc.
If you do have reflux and it burns your throat, about the only way you can stop that horrible pain is to eat ice. That’s what works for me . . .the ice. Let ice cubes melt in your mouth. This will eventually take the pain away, but it takes a lot of ice cubes to do this, about 3 large cups of ice will do it.
You can also take anti-acid pills, such as Rolaids, Tums, etc. There are several others. Try to avoid getting this because if you have it a lot, you can eventually get cancer from it.
Prilosec
I went through it big time.
Take acid-reducers or acid-controllers like zantac or pepcid before a meal. There are generic brands that are cheaper.
Don’t eat oily/greasy foods or whatever you know that triggers it. Usually if I avoided processed foods or junk foods and ate home cooked meals in smaller portions, I didn’t suffer it at all or as badly.
Don’t lie down or slouch after eating.. and sit up straight. I’d definitely avoid sleeping even an hour after eating.
Try that apple cider vinegar method where you take 2-3 tablespoons mixed with a half cup of water. If it doesn’t work for you then don’t do it ever again. I hear it works for some people. It didn’t work for me.
Take a walk (atleast 30 min) after eating. This really helped me.
I hope you get better. I’d try the acid reducers first and go with it if it helps keep it under control, but if even that doesn’t work, I’d definitely see a doctor.
Acid reflux is the way your body is telling you it doesn’t like what your doing to it.Being it mentally or nutritionally. And wants a change of life style. I have found Bragg apple cider vinegar is the best and you can add honey to it if you don’t like the taste of vinegar the instructions is on the label. It can take a while for it to work. But you have to do your part as well.
I have had fairly mild gastritis, which must cause much less pain than you have. If you have not done so already, please see your doctor, who will probably refer you to a GI doctor. It is likely that an endoscopy will be recommended.
As some others have said, Prilosec is one of the best meds for acid reflux. If I remember correctly, it really decreases the amount of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and probably helps the esophagus too.
If you are at all into alternative medicine, you can also try apple cider vinegar. The way I did it when I had gastritis was to drink a glass of warm water with one teaspoon of the vinegar with one tablespoon of honey. I did this twice a day for about six weeks. In a week or two, you will probably get used to the taste of the ACV, especially with honey. There are different ways and amounts of ACV recommended, but what I mentioned seems to be the norm.
I can understand if you want to see a GI doctor instead. Actually, in this case, I think you can do ACV along with any meds a doctor may prescribe. Remember that Prilosec is, to the best of my knowledge, the strongest over the counter medicine for acid reflux. Of course, you can also check with a pharmacist. I wish you well.
