Mylanta and Prevacid for treating 8 week old baby with acid reflux?
My son’s pediatrician said that we should not give him more than 1/5th tsp Mylanta more than 2 times a day. However, the Pediatrician Gastroentereolgist suggested that we give him 1tsp Mylanta at 4 hr interval per day. Both docs said that I can give Mylanta on top of Prevacid ( 15mg 1 per day ). Has anyone else given their infant Mylanta and Prevacid for reflux ? If yes, what was the dosage and frequency of Mylanta that you gave your infant ?

i feel for what you are going through with your son. my daughter is almost 11 months and she is just now being well-controlled on medications.
alright- about the mylanta and prevacid. both are perfectly safe at those doses. the reason your pediatrician and Peds GI are giving you different does is because the Pediatric GI is a specialist in this area only and can recommend a better dose for severe reflux. Regular pediatricians are excellent but their recommendations for reflux medication doses may be below what the specialist will recommend simply because they tend to start at the lowest possible dose.
My daughter has been on regan, zantac, mylanta, carafate, prevacid (60MG a day at 6 months, and 30MG at just 2 months), and is now on prilosec and erithromycin.
I would go by what the doctors have told you and not what people tell you on this forum. The pediatric gestroentereoligist is the one that I would go with. If you need clarification, call his office and get the correct dosages again.
The ped. gastroenterologist is the one to listen to on this one. Also, they probably didn’t tell you this, but make sure you wait at least one hour before or one hour after you give the prevacid to give the Mylanta. The mylanta can make the prevacid less effective if given to close together.
