Apple cider vinegar and Acid Reflux?

I’ve read that 2 teaspoons of red apple cider vinegar to a glass of water can help with the symptoms of Acid Reflux. Is this true? Is it a placebo effect? Does anyone have any other natural remedies?

yes, it will work. But, it will be much more tolerable and fun to take if you add it to a favorite juice. Apple Cider Vinegar balances PH – imbalance in PH is what causes acid reflux (short of a medical problem such as a tumor). Get organic ACV such as Braggs. http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=5711&at=0
Other ways to bring acid reflux under control is to take a daily probiotic and a digestive enzyme with each meal. These both work very well by helping your body to appropriately digest and absorb. My favorites are:
Probiotic – http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=2716&at=0
Digestive Enzyme – http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=2655
There are other brands of both the vinegar and the enzymes, but those links will give you an idea of what you are looking for. Your local health food store will carry all of these items. If you do decide to go back to iHerb to purchase them though, use coupon code KES097 for $5 off your first time order (not affiliated, just where I buy those items because it is cheaper and closer than a health food store.)
Those are things you can take to help, but more importantly is what you should do to stop exacerbating the problem.
For instance, you should cut out all coffee, chocolate and acidic or caffeinated foods and drinks. Also, if you take antacids, they can be addictive, so though they seem to help, they keep the ph in your system out of whack requiring further use of them. You need to quit those cold turkey.
Try drinking 8 glasses of clean, filtered water daily to help your digestive system. Milk is a good stomach balancer too. If you don’t drink cows milk, you can make a great almond milk. Follow directions online for making it. It is very easy, tasty and healthy.
Finally, add a bit of lemon to your water. That also helps digestion. Here, we quarter a lemon and squeeze one quarter in each glass of water. Good stuff!
Hope you get it under control soon. I know how uncomfortable it is.
My favorite remedy is Coca-Cola. It always works for me.
Try chewing gum!
Because it helps you to produce saliva which lowers the acid amount in your stomach. Anyway, it is only a band aid solution for an hour or so.
You need to find an effective way to treat your acid reflux problem
From my own experience I can tell you that the very best is one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in half a glass of water. It does not taste nice, but it helps very fast. Otherwise you can eat a few carrots or an apple. It neutralises the acid immediately.
My father-in-law had acid reflux for YEARS, started doing this, and swears by it.
In fact, he keeps a half-gallon bottle of water with ACV in it
{he started with just a little and kept adding as he adjusted to the taste} and that is what he drinks all day long!
I tried it and it does work!
Yep.
Apple cider vinegar does the trick for me! http://acid-reflux-diet-help.blogspot.com/2009/03/acid-reflux-symptoms.html
Hi: It is probably not as painful as acid reflux, but I had gastritis (as diagnosed by a GI doctor). For about six months I have been taking a teaspoon of ACV plus a tablespoon of honey in 8 ounces of water. I like using warm (not hot) water. I take this concoction twice a day. If you don’t like the taste, try adding more honey.
My gastritis is almost completely gone. As a tangent I used ACV topically to remove a wart. I now take ACV with honey everyday as a general tonic. For lots of info, google "apple cider vinegar health benefits." As an added bonus, I lost 20 pounds in two months. In the fisrt month, I barely lost a pound, but probably my metabolism was speeding up. After the first month, the weight started coming to come off.
Be sure to use Bragg’s brand of ACV or a similar product from a high-quality health food store. It should contain something called the Mother. Avoid ACV from supermarkets.
I don’t think ACV is a placebo effect. The only way to find out for sure is for some company to spend thousands of dollars conducting double-blind placebo-controlled studies.
