Can lactose intolerance be misdiagnosed as acid reflux?

My son has been on Prevacid for 3 years and I want to explore the cause of the reflux instead of just treating the symptoms. We currently took him off his medication (with Dr. O.K.) and took all lactose out of his diet. Has anyone had any experience with this sort of problem????

Lactose intolerance usually reveals itself as diarrhea. Prevacid does not just treat the symptoms. It actually decreases the amount of acid released in the stomach which decreases the amount that goes up the esophagus. Raising the head of the bed does help some in acid reflux. Watching the type of food that causes the most problems and avoiding it also helps. Nerves are involved in acid reflux. Releive stress.
Lactose intolerence usually causes causes a gassy stomach and diarrhea and not reflux. Did they do an upper GI at all on your son to try to figure out what was causing his reflux? Also remember many prepackaged items do contain lactose or milk byproducts so read your labels carefully while doing this. I would be more inclined to want to find to find the cause of his reflux by having an upper GI if he hasn’t had one already. Good Luck and let the readers know how this turns out.
yes manytimes it happens
