My 4 month old seems to have acid reflux and a protein allergy. I had to quit breasfeeding and put her on Nutramigen by Enfamil. It seems to be helping, but this formula is expensive to say the least! Does anyone know if a doctor can prescribe a formula that way my insurance may cover it? This formula is expensive here in California. Please help!

It is expensive everywhere! My daughter was on Similac Alimentum for almost 8 months.
We have blue cross/blue shield and insurance would not cover it, even if the doctor prescribed it. You may want to talk to your doctor or insurance company and see what they say.
I feel ya! Unfortunately, it’s not something a doctor can write for and most pharmacies don’t dispense Nutramagin. Have you tried WIC? They can dispense it with a doctor’s note for children with allergies.
I hope this helps!
my son is on the alimentum formula because the milk formula makes him sick and the soy constipates him so that was our only choice. its 26 dollars for a 16 oz can here in ohio. we actually had to sign up for WIC because it was to much for us. that was our only choice we were going broke buying formula!!!
My son is also on that…his dr gives me all the samples she can in three months I’ve only had to buy two cans…I have some concentrate that he doesn’t like (mix with water). If you send me your address I’ll give it to you…it’s like enough for at least a week or two. Once opened you must use it within 48 hours. I’d call your dr. and ask them about samples, and explain your finding it hard to pay for something you didn’t expect. I also planned to bf, and had to quit..just let me know…I’ll ask my dr. cause she got me a free case of formula I’ll see if they can find out something for you.
I don’t know any insurance company that will cover it. Try WIC if your income is low enough. Believe it or not you have it lucky. My little one is on a formula that cost 40 dollars a can for 14.1 oz. Try WIC or any other assistance out there
My son was on ALimentum for 3 1/2 months and i was SO thankful when we tried Similac Soy that he was able to tolerate it now. Alimentum in NY is $28 a can for the powder and my son is a piggie and likes to eat lots. I gladly pay for the Soy!
I actually have 4 unopened cans of Alimentum if anyone is interested, you pay for shipping but you can have the formula. Its taking up space and I dont want it to go bad if someone can use it. Think its good throug 200. Email me if interested.
