Is a baby supposed to spit up a lot to have acid reflux?

Well my baby has all reflux symptoms except the frequent spit up. She only spits up once in a while. It can be every day but just a tiny amount. But it doesn’t always happen. So could she have reflux or could it be something else?

How do I know if my baby has GER?
Clues that your baby suffers from GER enough to need treatment are:
* Frequent spitting up or vomiting (not all babies with GER spit up)
* Baby isn’t outgrowing the "colic" and/or spitting up
* Frequent blasts of crying that are painful cries, not just baby cries
* Your gut feeling tells you that your baby "hurts somewhere"
* Bursts of nightwaking "as if in pain"
* Colicky, abdominal pain after eating, even as long as one hour afterwards
* Poor sleep habits, restless
* Writhing as if in pain: drawing up legs, arching back
* Erratic feeding patterns. Refuses to feed or wants to breast or bottlefeed all the time.
* Frequent "wet burps" or "wet hiccups"
* Throaty noises: swallowing noises, choking, gagging
* Frequent, unexplained colds, wheezing, and chest infections
* Stop-breathing episodes
* Excessive drooling
* Spits up like a "volcano"
My 4 month old nephew has had the same problem since he was a newborn(reflux). The doctor prescribed him some medicine and it helps.
my daughter has the exact same thing. its called silent reflux. ask your doctor about it. it happens quite often. usually they are spitting up but it doesnt come all the way up and they swallow it back down..this makes it twice as bad because its burning their throat 2 times instead of once.
my oldest never spit up but my second did all the time they thought it was acid reflux also. once i stopped giving her the occasional formula (i only did for the first week b/c i wasn’t making enough breastmilk yet) she quit spitting up. you should tell her doctor at her next appt. there is another type of acid reflux that is worse but the amount of spit up is less.
feed babe in a more upright position & burp often. monitor your own diet as something may interact with the babe’s digestive system. follow up with the pediatrician for further advice.
My baby has reflux…but he rarely spits up. He has "silent reflux". It’s even worse in some ways that reflux…because it burns on the way up and on the way down – as the baby swallows it. Usually there are indications of reflux. My son was crying and arching his back – common symptoms of reflux – but I wasn’t seeing spit up. So, I paid more attention and I could see the spit up come to his mouth and then he’d swallow. Once I saw that I knew – and I went to his doctor, described it and he was put on Zantac. It helped.
