I am on 500 mg metformin XR twice a day and have had nothing but stomach problems since. I run for the bathroom with cramps about 10 times a day and now I have acid reflux all the time. I have never had acid refux before. Can Metformin cause acid reflux? I wind up getting up in the middle of the night with severe reflux that I am taking Pepto Bismol so I can get back to sleep.

Acid reflux is more likely caused by poor diet… the same thing that gave you the type two diabetes. Read my blog, if you’re interested in getting off the Metformin… you won’t regret it:

I dont know about Acid Reflux – But it does cause stomach problems. My mother was on it for her Type 2 Diabetes. She was having severe cramps and other stomach issues. I would recommend talking to you doctor about getting off of it, you will benefit greatly. You dont need it if you control you sugars.
