Newborn grunting?
My daughter is almost 1 month old. When she is asleep she grunts really loud. Her face gets all red and she stretches out her muscles. The grunting is continuous through the night and enough to keep me awake. I have told the doctor. He seemed unconcerned and said so long as she is just turning red and not blue it is fine. This is my first child and I have little experience with children and nothing to compare her to. Is this loud grunting something that is normal or should I get a second opinion? I have done some research on the internet and found out that there is a disorder called "grunting baby syndrome." Have you known anyone dx with GBS? If so, what was the treatment? Something else that I saw was acid reflux. Any info on newborn acid reflux?
Baby has regular bowel movements that are of appropriate color and consistency. She rarely spits-up.

I have a one month old too and she does this, it’s more than likely just gas. She is also finding her voice and the way that it makes noise. Babies make noises, if the pediatrician isn’t concerned I wouldn’t worry. Stay off the internet though because you will find a million diseases and disorders that your child could have but most likely dosen’t.
Babies are noisy!
gosh it really sounds like constipation…
does she has regular bowel movements?
are they real hard ones…?
if this is the reason she might need either punes juice or some karo syurp in a bottle
my kids were always constipated….i had to give them karo…reccomended by my babies doctor..
My kids also had acid reflux, this is more of spitting up..not grunting
I think its probably gas or constipation. My babies did this also
I just asked this also. Glad to hear I am not the only one with this concern. Good luck
If she is havinf normal bowl movements and isnt spitting up or this is not bothering her i would think your ok. If something bothered her she would let you know with a cry. good luck first time parenting can be rough, i am going through it myself!
Don’t worry, my baby was exactly like that. So was my friend’s baby boy. We both gave birth in the same month. I don’t know why our babies did that. It stopped once they learned to turn. I guess they were just growing. But the conclusion we made was that our babies did not like the blankies we put on them and also hated the sleeping positions we put them in coz both our children ended up preferring to sleep on their stomachs once they learned to turn. Now my child is 5 years old, still sleeping on her stomach and still gets very annoyed when I turn her to sleep on her back or put a blankie on her.

But then again, we could be wrong as to why they did that weird & funny sound. But don’t worry, it should stop soon enough…
My baby was a loud baby too. He did it all night, while he ate, etc… We would lay in bed at night and my husband and I would giggle because he kept grunting over and over through the monitor.
He is now three months and he doesn’t do it.
I never linked the two together but he does have acid relux and he has been on meds for over a month now. Maybe it did have something to do with it… Never knew….
