I’ve been dating this girl for a couple months now and have noticed that she is always complaining about the pains she gets. I know that she has a hiatal hernia and that it is linked to GERD, but I don’t know exactly what is wrong with her and I don’t know how to help. Here are the symptoms that she experiences as described by her:
Nausea/vomiting (especially in the morning)
Searing pain in upper half of esophagus. (especially when she leans over or moves around a lot).
Painful burps
Bad breath (even after brush, floss, and mouthwash).
Upper abdominal pain after eating or after going a long period without eating.

She says that the pain has steadily increased over the past several weeks and has been losing sleep over the pain.
I know that stress can be a factor, in which case I could pin it on her because she is often very stressed about school, work, etc.
I also know that diet can have a huge role in the problem, in which case; she eats a lot of fast foods, red meats, very few vegetables, and almost nothing else. She could be considered overweight but she is gorgeous to me and I can’t stand seeing her in pain.
Does this sound like Acid Reflux Disease or something else?
In any case, what can her and I do to help this illness? Thank you!
