Generally foods to avoid for people with GERD are spicy and greasy!! Yeah, I know, everything good!! But these are the biggest contenders leading to reflux, even in people who don’t suffer from GERD (medical abbreviation for the disease). Anything that used to give you "heart burn" before, you shouldn’t eat. Some natural things to try are chamomile. Either in leaf form as a tea or you can get it at health food stores, try to make sure you keep sitting upright and avoid lying down for at least a half an hour after you eat! All in all though, GERD is a degenerative disease that will eventually wear out and destroy the lining in your esophagus. There are quite a few medications that the Dr. can give you to help prevent that and even repair it. I’ve never heard of a natural remedy that can do that! Wish I had though! Hope this helps a little!! Good luck to you and take care of you!
avoid chocolate & alcohol
Foods you should avoid are any acidic foods…tomatoes for example.
I’m not sure what kind of reflux my daughter had when she was younger, but we used to give her dill water. Made fresh by a qualified chemist. It worked wonders.
From my experience with my gastro esophageal reflux the worst foods are potato crisps. I don’t get the same problem with my wife’s crisps, so I reckon it’s the oil they cook them in.
I know you’re looking for a natural cure, but I find the drug Nexium works great. I only use it very occasionally now I have the reflux under control and have had no problems at all. I used to get it all the time, no matter what I ate, but now I only get it with commercial crisps, and don’t always have to take Nexium for it to go away.
gastro esophageal reflux is due to the ingested food regurgitating back due to a lax esophageal sphincter. alcohol, eating lots of food at a go, lying down immediately after eating, all tend to aggravate the situation. try to avoid these situations to prevent a GER.
