A little baking soda in a glass of water will stop the burning almost immediately. The baking soda neutralizes the acids but this will form gas causing you to belch. The belching last only a few seconds but the relief from the burning last for hours.

How old are you? have you any history of stomach/duodenal ulcers? A gnawing pain after food usually suggests an ulcer. Are you constipated? This will definitely cause you problems not only gastric but pain, bloating, headaches, backache and generally unwell. many fruits particularly are too acidic for some digestive systems. This is trail and error. you could try acidophilus either in capsules (www.burstingwithhealth.co.uk) of in yogurt drinks however i think you need further investigation re ulcers and possibly an endoscopy ( camera down in to your tummy) it's not as bad as it sounds.

Have you had an upper GI scope?

Little look around to make sure everything is ok.

Also - check out hiatal hernia; I had a really bad one and it caused a bunch of the same symptoms
