I am so sorry to hear that your ds has to go through this. My ds was diagnosed at 7 weeks after weeks of me trying to find a dr. that knew anything. They put him on prevacid 7.5 mg per day and increased that 4 weeks later to 15 mg. per day. I didn't think dr's prescribed zantac for infants anymore. Most Dr's. prescribe prevacid. It took 2 weeks to help ease his pain and 4 more weeks to completely cure his gut wrenching screams but he is a totally different baby now and has been for 8 months. Infant reflux is a hard thing to go through with your baby especially when others don't understand it. I have found MUCH help at www.infantreflux.org - a wonderful sight full of information from moms that experience the same thing with their infant. Good luck.

My son was diagnosed with reflux around 6 weeks, and was given Zantac. We waited 2 weeks for it to take effect, but it was only effective in reducing his symptoms by about 50-75%, so at his 2 month well visit they took him off Zantac and put him on Prevacid, which worked great (and tasted much better to him!). Around 6 1/2 months we took him off the Prevacid to see how he would do and he was fine. He is now 8 months and completely symptom-free.

My son was put on Axid at about three weeks old. We tried everything before that and nothing helped...he screamed miserably and arched his back every time he ate, and every time he spit up he'd cry. It took maybe 2-3 days to start working, and the difference was night and day. He's four months old now and we haven't had to increase his dosage, so the doctor said after this bottle runs out we can let it go and see if he's outgrown it.
